“Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party.'” — Robin Williams
As the mornings grow brighter and the air carries a little more warmth, there’s something about spring that calls us back to simple joys. Fresh flowers on the table, windows open just a crack, and a mixing bowl ready to welcome the season’s first sweet flavours.
Today, I want to invite you into my kitchen — a place where springtime baking isn’t about grand, complicated recipes, but about celebrating small, beautiful moments. A dusting of flour on the counter, the scent of lemon zest on your fingertips, a batch of buttery shortbread shared with friends.
At the academy, one of the things I treasure most is seeing how baking naturally brings people together — especially at this time of year, when everything feels full of hope and renewal.
Here are a few of my favourite ways to bring a little spring into your baking days:
Spring is the perfect time to swap out heavy spices and dark chocolate for lighter, brighter tastes.
Think:
Even a simple vanilla loaf can feel wonderfully fresh with a drizzle of sharp lemon glaze.
Not every bake needs to be a showstopper. Some of the most joyful spring moments come from quick, easy recipes that leave plenty of time for sipping tea in the garden.
Simple ideas to try:
It’s not about perfection — it’s about pleasure.
Spring is made for gathering. Pop a tray of cookies in the oven and invite a friend over for an impromptu catch-up. Bake a lemon drizzle loaf and take slices to your neighbours. Bring a simple cake to your child’s football game or your local coffee morning.
There’s a quiet, profound magic in sharing what you’ve made with your own two hands.
What are your favourite springtime bakes or memories? Pop over to our Instagram page or reply to the newsletter — I’d love to hear what’s baking in your kitchen!
Until next time,
